Visiting Liwonde National Park as well as Lake Malawi gives you the opportunity to be in the African bush and on the beaches of the third largest lake in Africa in a short period of time.
After arriving at Chileka International Airport in Blantyre, you’ll be met by your private driver for your hotel transfer to Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel, within the Blantyre City. The transfer is within 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic
After breakfast check out and take a 2-hour drive to Majete Wildlife Reserve, located at the base of Africa’s Great Rift Valley. Despite its thriving wildlife population, the reserve remains an off-grid destination with unspoiled wilderness and first-class guiding.
Majete is Malawi’s only Big 5 Reserve and also one of the largest protected areas, and covers an area of over 70,000ha. The reserve is located within the Miombo woodland ecoregion and much of the higher lying areas in the west of the park are dominated by Miombo/Brachystegia woodland. Mixed Combretum woodlands and mosaics of riparian forest can be found in the East of Majete.
After breakfast, you are free to be as energetic or as idle as it pleases you although at least one activity per day, boat or game drive.
After breakfast, transfer approximately 4 hours to Liwonde National Park's Kuthengo camp for the next two nights on full board. Located in the heart of Liwonde National Park, Kuthengo Camp has four spacious & modern safari tents all with spectacular views of the Shire River. Witness hippos grazing and crocodiles basking on the riverside. With an abundance of birdlife, the park is a paradise for birders. Liwonde National Park is one pf the parks best for game drive and other activities like Walking safaris with an armed guide, and Boat trip later stopping on the way at some superb local craft stables.. Spend the rest of the day in camp or take an optional night drive.
Post breakfast, embark on a transfer to Cape Maclear, you’ll check out and met by a driver for your private transfer to Pumulani, located on the quiet side of Cape Maclear, around a 2.30-hour drive.
After checking into your hotel, you can recover from your long drive by lazing in a hammock under the baobabs on the glittering shore of Lake Malawi. You’ll stay here for the next two nights in a villa on a full-board basis.
On your second day, spend your days absorbing the serenity of Lake Malawi, whether it be on an early breakfast cruise or an enchanting sunset cruise. Join your guide for a hike into the hills to spot endemic birds and see the endless vistas over Lake Malawi. There are also guided walks through the local villages where you can learn about life on the Lake and the traditions and rituals of Malawian culture. All activities offered by Robin Pope safari, the manager of Pumulani Lodge.
Enjoy breakfast and a final morning on the waters of Lake Malawi, before checking and meeting your private driver for your three-hour transfer to Kamuzu International Airport. At the airport, you will be assisted to check-in with your bags, before boarding your return flight home.
